Queen Mbanuzue, DPM
“My focus is to fully educate my patients and ensure that they know what condition they are dealing with, why, and how to address it. It is important to me that In Step Podiatry Center plays a bigger role in creating a comprehensive, long-term treatment plan for our patients.”
She has been in private practice since founding In Step Podiatry Center with the late Dr. LaToya D. Smith in 2011. At In Step Podiatry Center, she educates, diagnoses, and comprehensively treats a wide range of patients in the D.C. Metro Area. Dr. Mbanuzue is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and takes every opportunity to build awareness in the field of podiatric medicine. Dr. Mbanuzue is very passionate about patient education and encourages her patients to take an active role in their treatment.
Dr. Mbanuzue received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, and her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Dr. Scholl College At Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, North Chicago, Illinois. While pursuing her credentials, she also served in many leadership roles including as Coordinator for the Dance for Diabetes Fundraiser. Post graduate school, she attended a three- year surgical podiatric residency at Inova Fairfax Hospital, a reputable Level I Trauma Center where she received intensive training in forefoot and rearfoot surgery. Dr. Mbanuzue also served as chief resident and worked with esteemed practitioners at Georgetown Hospital Center for Wound Healing.
As a private practitioner in the D.C. Metro area, Dr. Mbanuzue has continuously nurtured her growth and impact by contributing to featured publications and holding various professional memberships. She currently serves as Chief of Podiatry at Doctors Community Hospital as well as Secretary on the Board of Directors for Kusudi International, a global nonprofit proving rehabilitative and medical assistance domestically and abroad, and Wound Care Consultant at the Center for Wound Healing at Doctors Community Hospital.
When she is not practicing medicine, Dr. Mbanuzue enjoys watching sports and playing flag football and volleyball recreationally. She also loves great food, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Lauryn Smith-Winton
Dr. Lauryn Smith-Winton, our newest addition to the In Step Podiatry Center although she has been in practice since 2015. She earned her undergraduate degree from Delaware State University where she majored in Biology and also played Division One basketball. She attended medical school at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Smith-Winton completed her extensive three-year reconstructive foot and ankle surgical and clinical training at Inspira Health Network in Vineland, New Jersey.
She completed training in deformity correction at The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Smith-Winton is Board Qualified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Her special interests include sports medicine, diabetic limb salvage and trauma. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, playing sports and spending time with her husband and daughter.
